Mortgage fraud is becoming more common across Canada. It now totals about $50 million annually, experts say, and is helping to drive up the cost of mortgage insurance for everyone.

Most mortgage frauds are low-level scams that are not exposed until something goes wrong – most likely when the homeowner cannot make the mortgage payments. In fact, it is doubtful most of these frauds are ever detected.
